In light of the recent Montreal and Toronto maps, I thought I’d revisit the original map – Vancouver. My initial intent was to make it a full poster (no Score/Timer UI at the bottom), but then I got carried away and added the upcoming Evergreen Line and the rest of the West Coast Express.

Above are two flavors, to represent the current 2012 and future 2016 layouts. The future one will have the Evergreen Line, and as you can see it will absorb a good chunk of the current Millennium Line (which will then only run to Lougheed Town Centre).

Other changes include a larger mixed-case font for the stations, cities are indicated, and the station stops are all designated with the corresponding line’s initial.

And for those asking I did consider including the B-Lines, with stops designated by the coin-like markers, but I’d have to scale everything smaller to squeeze-in UBC. Maybe for the third edition.

You can also find a Calgary version here. American cities next? (Update: Just did one)

  1. I’d be down to jump on that for an Los Angeles one. Think only problem with these is main fan base would be people who live in that area or been around there. Would make for cool items to sell around tourist traps around that area. New York probably has more selling point though, considering trains and dense population (potential customers). Plus you’d have to consider how many people been there to site-see/visit (more customers). Probably easier to draw inspiration from.
Only say Los Angeles personally since that’s where I live and probably main or only one I’d be interested in purchasing of these. Either way props on keep up the great work regardless of what cities you decide to make maps for

  2. Dave great update.

If you are looking at doing a 3rd edition, in addition to adding the B-lines if I can suggest two things:
    a) there a few stations that either were proposed on the existing lines that are either rejected or could be added at a later expansion. Lake City is a example of this, as it opened 3 years after the rest of the Millennium line. If you check this link you can see the proposed stations http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d4/Vancouver_SkyTrain_track_diagram.svg
    b) and honest this is more a pet peeve than anything else because if you check most Translink maps the Surrey section is usually shown as a straight line east from Columbia. If however you look at regular map of the area, the last three stations on the Expo line should actually be going south after Scott Road. I know this is a minor detail, but as I use Surrey Central on a daily basis it always irritates me when I see that section abbreviated to make their maps easier. https://maps.google.ca/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&oe=UTF-8&client=firefox-a&hl=en&msa=0&t=h&om=1&msid=113059281235500405957.00000112b4cf2b563dbbd&ll=49.239121,-122.980957&spn=0.163634,0.473785&z=11

    • Actually that edit to Surrey would be extremely helpful in allowing me to slide everything over to the right and including UBC for the 99 B Line. And those proposed stations are very helpful too. I’m definitely open to editing this map in the future whenever expansion occurs. Also, I wish they kept that Olympic line. I enjoyed using it.

  3. An Atlanta one would be really cool! It would be dense enough to be interesting but simple enough to work well in this format. (Unfortunately its a bit to simple to actually be useful, though!)
