Ghostbusters 3 Script Idea

With news that Ghostbusters 3 is in a stand-still, I thought I’d offer up my idea for the plot. Not just the premise, but a start, middle, and ending. It does introduce a new group of Ghostbusters, but I couldn’t assign them names or character traits. This is highly derivative of the first film.
This is just a rough story outline. Not quite a short story, not quite a script outline. It doesn’t dwell on characterization or action sequences for the most part. It is poorly-written and breaks the 4th wall often, but I enjoyed writing it. It’s fun to exercise my creative writing skills once in a while, no matter how horrendous. Here goes (4700 words, fair warning):
Peter Venkman decides he is done being a Ghostbuster, and starts a company called Ghobo Inc., which sells Roomba-like devices (also called Ghobos) that work as both ghost detectors and traps. The device makes Peter rich and the Ghostbusters redundant. So much so they closed down the Firehouse and released all the ghosts they caught, which are quickly scooped up by thousands of Ghobos throughout New York City.
When a Ghobo catches a ghost, it has a removable cartridge which is then be dropped in the mail Netflix-style. It is then sent to a massive containment unit in Japan, where the ghosts’ ecto properties are converted into a clean energy source. Read the rest of this entry
Unwanted Toys Part 2: Ghostbusters Firehouse Blu-Ray Set
Unwanted Toys is a series of package concepts I made for a now-shuttered European company that specialized in high-end media packaging.
This one started as one of my designs I made last year, and was re-done to make it a (fake) leather-bound embossed case — like a book. It included an LED sign that pegged onto the front, which was stored in a movie case for shipping and display.
I initially wanted the movies to lay on the spine to afford the Firehouse its familiar dimensions, but in the end I saw the potential of how this would look on the shelf. It would look great with the rest of your movie library, or as a bookend even.
This was pitched to Sony as the potential case for a Ghostbusters Trilogy, hence the 3 films and 2 special features discs. While I am told that Sony really liked it, obviously nothing came of it. With the middleman now dead Sony is still more than welcome to use this design, if and when Ghostbusters 3 ever gets made.
Ghostbusters Hockey Jersey UPDATE: Order Window Closed (Back in September)
The order window is now closed. These jerseys will be back in late August/early September 2012 for Halloween delivery. A smokey-blue variant similar to the Ghostbusters II uniforms will also be available. Maybe a Stay-Puft jersey too? Time will tell. Thanks to everybody who ordered! These will look amazing.
UPDATE: Jerseys were completed and shipped. Go see a completed one here.
Ghostbusters Earbuds Redux

Slimer if he were designed by Aardman Studios (Wallace and Gromit).
Earlier this year I posted a design for Ghostbusters earbuds and protective case that featured a rather plain earbud design. I thought I would update their appearance. These Slimers would be on the back of the earbuds, appearing to be caught in a proton stream, which is actually the cords.
This would still be used with a Proton Pack protective case, where the blaster is used as volume control extension these earbuds would plug into.
Geeky Bed Ideas Part 1: Ghostbusters

One of the items I featured in my Geeky IKEA series was a duvet cover that looked like the original Nintendo Game Boy. I have a few more bed ideas along that vein, enough for their own spinoff series.
Here is a duvet cover that features the gold and black hash marks with an accompanying Slimer pillowcase, together giving the appearance of the Ghostbusters’ ghost trap. This would look great on a black and blocky bed frame, like the IKEA Malm one I used here.
You could go the extra mile add some decorative touches around the bed frame, but I think the duvet and pillowcase alone speak volumes.
Parents might appreciate the appearance of this design, as it would look like their kids are being ensnared by this trap device – their reign of terror is over (until the morning).
Who Wants A Ghostbusters Hockey Jersey?

I’ve been wanting a Ghostbusters hockey jersey for awhile now, the thing that has repeatedly stopped me: no one makes a khaki-colored jersey.
I recently stumbled onto this company called RinkGear (via PuckDrawn) who can output entire jerseys using a sublimation process, so you can put whatever you want on it.
Right now they are offering jerseys for $50 a piece (regular $60), plus shipping of $3-5 per jersey. However they need a minimum order of 10 jerseys. So I need (at least) nine very cool people who love Ghostbusters to join in on this offer.
I’d like to guarantee you it will be $55 for your jersey, but logistical factors could increase that cost. If Rinkgear or myself has to process numerous payments and individual shipping orders, it will probably cost more. We might also miss the sale window and be charged regular price. If you live outside of North America, it will cost you a lot for shipping.
We’ll also need to come to a consensus as to what the jerseys will look like. Right now I’ve got shoulder straps (for the proton pack) included on the jersey. I could add the nameplates (Venkman, Spengler, etc.) and Ghosbusters shoulder patch logos, but my recommendation is to separately order the embroidered patches online and affix them to your jersey. Would look so much nicer, plus you can choose your favorite nameplate. The 4.5″ GB logo patch is ideal for the shoulders.
So to get started, send me an email detailing your name, general whereabouts (no exact addresses needed right now), your preferred means of payment (paypal, credit card), and any feedback you’d like to see in regards to how the jersey should look. I will then create a mailing list and BCC everyone from there.
After we get enough people, we’ll hammer out the design and logistical details (payment, shipping). The design will be by committee, so if you’re unhappy with the direction you can withdraw from the group. Hopefully we’ll still have enough people to move forward with an order!
This is the first time I’ve put something like this together, so there will be growing pains and I ask for everyone’s patience! In the end you’ll have a cool GB jersey, and hopefully all the back-and-forth emails will be worth it.
Here is another concept, with patches:

Ghostbusters Firehouse PC Tower Case

It’s been about several weeks since the last Ghostbusters idea, so why not a new one? Actually truth be told, I suggested this idea over a year ago, and merely presented a sketch drawing of the concept.
The shape of the building makes for an excellent case mod. The Ghostbusters’ sign is the perfect power indicator light. You could even make all the windows opaque, for those who like to see the innards of their computer.

I also originally suggested that the Ecto-1 car be used as a USB hub that is tethered to the building, and can be stowed in the garage. The front doors could even be opened to reveal USB or other ports. I’d also like to see the built-in power supply look like the Ecto Containment Unit, but only if the PSU was stationed at the bottom of the case. There are plenty of things that can be done with this concept.
For now it’s pretty basic. All the buttons are placed on the ledges. The disc tray is enclosed at the top. I didn’t include the vents, but they would be concealed within the window frames.
Updated Ghostbusters Hockey Jersey

I made an update for the Ghostbusters hockey jersey I designed in the fall, which is a popular item. Sadly, no one makes a jersey in a khaki color. The closest I could find is a ‘Vegas’ color, which is what the Notre Dame Fighting Irish adorn – a light brown with a gold tint. Not good enough!
Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Alarm Clock

I always thought a toy firetruck or police car would make for a cool alarm clock. It would feature lights and sirens and would add a little more urgency to getting out of bed in the morning. Albeit that idea is more suitable for kids.
But then I remembered for Ghostbuters 2 they added a large LED panel display to the roof rack, which served as a billboard of sorts. I think that would make for an excellent time display, more so than a firetruck or police car as neither features this kind of signage.

The Ecto-1 also features a very distinctive siren, which makes for a great alarm sound. Though you could probably opt to listen to the radio or your iPod instead.
I’d probably make the engine hood the snooze button, or provide a base/stand that would house the button, as there is too much kibble mounted on top of the car that might be prone to a swatting hand.

This would make for an excellent collectible even without the alarm clock. Hopefully Diamond Select, which issues a great BTTF Delorean with lights and sounds, can release a comparable Ecto-1 vehicle. Oddly enough, Diamond Select has a replica Ecto-1 license plate for sale, but that doesn’t seem like nearly enough!

Something like this as a collectible would be nice. If only I could pester Diamond Select somehow.
If you like this alarm clock idea (or any gadget idea I post), please bug Thinkgeek here. Email them a link to this post, and tell them you want one! Your endorsement is much appreciated.
Ghostbusters PKE Meter Wireless Router/Wi-Fi Hub

I know I know – another Ghostbusters gadget. But they have so many iconic devices!
This one was a bit easy. I was looking at my wireless router, and all it’s blinking lights and antennae, when it struck me. Why not a router modeled in the fashion of the Ghostbusters’ PKE Meter, the device they use to detect ghosts with?

I’m sure it could stand up on it’s own, but a base wouldn’t hurt so I added one. I think the Ghostbusters used a recharging dock for it in the movies anyways. All the wired connections would be located in the back of the base.
Given the vertical shape of this device, they could probably house all the antennae internally, making those LED-lit rabbit ears just for show.
I think LinkSys, D-Link, Cisco, and the other router manufacturers could exercise some imagination and issue a device like this.
