Direwolves 2.0 And Voltron Jerseys Arrived On My Doorstep

Merry Starkmas Direwolves Stark Christmas shirt tacky

Kim is in a very determined 'Arya' pose as she models her handmade tacky Christmas sweater. It's awesome!

Before I get to the hockey jerseys I just want to show you this picture sent in by Kim P. which features her handmade tacky Christmas sweater. She made a “Rudolph the bloodthirsty Dire Wolf” sweater (based on my Direwolves logo) and a Lannister one based on this logo I made previously. I should say my Direwolves logo borrows from the HBO show - I just turned it into a silhouette and altered the outline. I like what Kim has done with the ear on this logo, may have to borrow that too!

I have already advised Kim to open an Etsy shop and make regular Game Of Thrones shirts like this. You can see the cool potential beyond the intentional tackiness, if you know what I mean.

Sorry for the bad pics. Doesn't do the jerseys justice.

Onto the Voltron jersey! It looks great, front and back. The light grey is darker than I thought it would be, but it does match the shield perfectly. Full disclosure: the arm colors were accidentally swapped from my design, but I saw a lot of Voltrons that had this configuration. My design was based on the 25th anniversary toy.

I really like the shoulder patches, they are perfectly placed. All the little number decals look nice too.

Also (and this wasn’t intended) the black and red framing around the shield makes it look a lot bigger - like one massive crest on the front. Remove the red stripe and it looks fine. Still perfectly wearable and unmistakably Voltron.

If I do another Voltron jersey, it will have an embroidered crest and the rest will also be in twill. I’ll also turn the red front stripe into a mid stripe (like the Montreal Canadiens).

And now onto the Direwolves 2.0 jersey:

I am quite impressed with this jersey, save for two things: the front crest is a tad small, and the Dire Wolf head has some wrinkling going on as it’s a twill surface, the only part not embroidered. EDIT: It’s only 10% smaller than Direwolves 1.0, but I made the stripes 1/6 thicker this time, helping make the crest look smaller.

Here is a closer look:

If the grey was embroidered like the white and black sections, this would be a home-run. I’m going to try and smooth it out with an iron or something. It’s not too bad, it sort of goes with the wrinkles in the sleeve stripes, but this being the central part of the logo it should look smooth. Yours may not look like this, I’ve seen pics of others and they look much smoother.

I’m probably being a bit fickle about the crest, but it is the centerpiece of the jersey. It is really nice looking, and has that glossy detailed look which makes the letters really pop. I especially like the outline details.

Bonus! Rinkgear went and fully-embroidered the rear patch. I wasn’t expecting that - just the front crest. I like it.

The numbers and letters are perfect. I specified a bunch of measurements for the layout this go round, and it matches that of my NHL jerseys.

Overall the jersey is really good quality, and the embroidery was a free addition courtesy of Rinkgear that takes it up a few notches but is just shy of perfection. I am looking forward to the Lannister jersey.

For Direwolves 3.0, larger front crests and the grey is embroidered too. Though it could be pricier as a result. I was happy with the twill back patch from 1.0, so that will return too (to keep the price down).

Tip: when you get your Direwolves or Lannister jerseys, you’ll see the odd loose thread around some of the cresting. Use nail clips instead of scissors to cut these off.

  2. Can I please order a Voltron Hockey Jersey?

I would like a 2X(XXL) just like in the picture #85, but this one will be an embroided crest?
