Star Trek Earrings

Star Trek Ceti Eel earrings by Dave Delisle

This is a more humorous entry in the Geek Bling series - a pair of earrings based on those vile Ceti Eels from Star Trek II The Wrath Of Khan. You know - those alien creatures that burrow into the ear and set up shop in the brain stem? Quaint little parasites.

I think the lady Trekkers out there can appreciate this design:

I was hoping to post a video clip from Star Trek II that featured these horrific creatures, but none can be found. So much for traumatizing people who are not in the know. *sigh!*

Borg Wireless Charging Pad

Star Trek Borg wireless charging pad 2011 Dave Delisle

Wireless charging pads emerged onto the scene a few years ago, and they are a brilliant innovation. Merely place your compatible gadget on top the pad/mat, and it will recharge through osmosis (actually with electro-magnetic induction to be precise). No wires needed, except for the one used to plug the mat in of course.

The simple interface of these recharging mats reminded me of the famous Star Trek villains the Borg and their ‘recharging stations’. So making a borg-themed charger for your portable device seems like a sensible idea if you really think about it.

Star Trek Enterprise Blu-Ray Case

Here I was thinking I was so clever about this Star Trek blu-ray case design, but then it turned out it was already made as an actual product (see below). Not sure how I arrived at something so similar. Usually I do some checking to see if it exists or not, and the official product didn’t show up on my radar.

Star Trek Viewscreen Lights

A simple device you place under your TV to recreate the viewscreen lights seen under the main screen in Star Trek. Powered by USB, which all TVs have these days. It could emit Sound Effects like the pings heard on the show.

Thinkgeek kicked the tires on this one, but I don’t think they’ll be making it.
