Jurassic Park Blu-Ray Case Collector’s Tin
***MAJOR UPDATE: New version completed, images at the bottom of the post, full write-up and additional images here. ***
For one of the more recent trilogies, Jurassic Park hasn’t aged as well as say, Back the the Future. Still, these films are great popcorn rides, even if they have been (ironically) cloned by numerous Discovery channel dino specials.
Let’s take a look at what Universal Studios has done for previous Jurassic Park releases:
Like, who do ya got in there, King Kong? Oh I slay me. This was the most recent DVD release, a bargain one at that. This can be had for $10-13 (at least, wherever I have seen it).
This next release is one of those ‘board game’ releases I am none too fond of:
Appears to be a major cash grab before the release of the third film. As you can see, it comes with the soundtracks (nice), and a certificate of authenticity. It’s authentic!
Those are the only notable collectible releases in my opinion. As for Blu-Ray, this trilogy has yet to be given the high-def treatment. So I decided to design a cool case to mark the occasion, which is rumored for later this year (edit: 2011?):
Why not use a case that was featured in the films? Yup, that’s the container/cage used to transport the Velociraptor in the opening moments of the first film. I merely added a logo.
It can sit on it’s side like this, or if you’d prefer to keep it upright with the other Blu-Ray jewel cases, you can pivot the Jurassic Park logo 90 degrees and stand it upright - just like the PS logo on the drawer of the original Playstation 2:
Here is an alternate version with the full-color logo:
Anyways, when you open this puppy, you will likely re-enact the scene with a Robert Muldoon voice: “Loading team, step away! Gatekeeper! Raise the gate!”
Come to think of it, Muldoon had all the best lines in Jurassic Park: “Shoooot heeeeerrrrhhhh!” “They remembah.” “Clever gurrrl”.
Inside there will be 3 or 4 blue jewel cases with the discs, naturally. The outer sleeve would feature a dinosaur of some sort. It’s like they are being held captive. Genius. I’m totally under-appreciated in my time.
This is just the basic concept. It can be finessed to revolve around a collector’s tin, or even a basic jewel case release. Here’s hoping Universal Studios does something creative when they do get around to releasing it.
Here are some updated images of the case I fine-tuned. Go here to see more.
UPDATE: If you like this, check out several other concepts, including Back to the Future, The Incredibles, and more here.

It’s really freaking genius, man! In this case, I imagine that it would be a digipack of some sort, perhaps with a small booklet inside the raptor container as well.
Other alternative for a Collector’s Edition: The Main Gate that would open for the cases with all the BDs inside them, each one with their respective logo. What do you think?
That would work too. You can put movie logos on the back or spine of the BD cases as well. Theres a lot that can be done with this, I just wanted to deliver a very general concept.
Thanks for checking it out and your feedback!
Awesome original concept!!! Kudos to you Man . However for JP1 alone I would love the Blu-ray front cover to feature the original teaser poster where the gates to Hell are opening up for Nedry’s Jeep. It is a blu-green themed poster with a starry night sky as its background-the best JP1 poster/artwork in my opinion. I would like the blu-ray to feature both the rare theatrical cut(not present in DVDs) and a special edition cut.
That sounds very cool. If you really like that poster, you should see if McFarlane Toys will produce one of their 3D Wall Art posters for it. They take classic films and make a 3D poster of it. Check out a few here.
I think their posters are very cool. The one for Alien had a pulsing LED light inside for the egg.
UPDATE ME ON THE JURASIC PARK TRILOGY ON BLUE RAY DISKES WHEN WILL THEY BE ON SALE
By there
You r doing pretty good job withyour website keep it up I like the idea of releasing Jurassic blurry trilogy tin box. I hope they should do it. And i hope they do it sooner it is already vtooooo late.
Thanks Amer! I agree they should release this, and soon. Sadly, with Netflix and other digital distribution, the disc medium will become extinct in a matter of years.
And it’s too bad. I’ve spent nearly all my life owning films on video. Now they will be merely files on my computer or cable HD box.
NOTIFY ME WHEN JURASIC PARK TRILOGY TIN COVER ON BLUERAY WILL BE ON SALE
Easy there cowboy. These are just ideas/designs/concepts, not an actual product. IF they are popular enough and appear to be profitable, Universal might take notice and consider doing something similar. But that is a big ‘if’.
I appreciate your enthusiasm though. Spread the word!
As for the Blu-Rays themselves, Universal has yet to announce they will release the films on the format. Keep your fingers crossed.
easy dave i now its just an idea i just wanted to se your response when i asked you if jurasic park was going to be on sale its just a dinosour movie no big deal cowboy so hold your horses thats my response see you
Grow up Jessie. When someone TYPES A SPAZZY COMMENT ENTIRELY IN CAPS WITH NO ALLUSION TO GRAMMAR OR SPELLING OR THE FACTS I will tell them to calm down, then clarify the situation for them in a mature fashion.
What kind of response did you expect?
I have been looking around on your blog today..
I must say I like the designs you have made
This Jurassic Park design looks very good!
Thanks Jerry! It’s a popular one alright. Though the recent Dark Knight Trilogy one I made is now my favorite!
