Update On Steve Jablonsky Scoring Dark Of The Moon
I still get a lot of traffic for this post, I’m guessing a lot of people want to know what is going on with the score! Steve Jablonsky is doing the score music, according to imdb. Hans Zimmer does not appear to be helping out this time. Linkin Park is contributing a few tracks to the film. From Jablonsky: “Michael (Bay) and I respond to Linkin Park because they have a cinematic sensibility to their music that translates to the big screen.” This might indicate Linkin Park is helping with the score, but no definitive news on that front.
Steve Jablonsky’s twitter account has sadly gone silent. I’m sure he is conducting up a storm! The film is only seven weeks away from hitting theaters. If I recall correctly, composition of the scores from the previous 2 Transformers films weren’t completed until about a week prior to the release.
If we looked at the trailers for any indication of the music we can expect, then I think it’s safe to say the score is the one thing that we don’t have to worry about. This recent and final trailer for Dark of the Moon starts off with echoes of Inception, then proceeds to rock-out in a kind of ‘anthem’ fashion. The percolating electric guitar riff is clearly Linkin Park. I’m happy to say that the LP sound is somewhat haunting and menacing, not the screechy and invasive sound that comprised the Revenge of the Fallen film.
That’s it for the update, will write about my impressions of the score when I see the film. Looking forward to July 1st.
Update on top of the update: The score and soundtrack will be released on June 7th! Remember when it took several months for the the first Transformers score to be released? An official website went up for Dark of the Moon’s music as well.
