Dumb Email Of The Year
Got this email today, regarding those Wile E. Coyote Wallpapers I posted last week:
Dave,
Just wanted to drop you a line and thank for copying my idea. They are close to my original screen caps but not exact. I am glad I was able to inspire you ..lol. Let me know if I can help you with your ” geeky ideas” . Are you a member of the replica prop forum or just saw me selling them.. ?? my toon props have been giving people enjoyment for a couple of years now.
thanks again

A google search turns this up - a poster being sold on Etsy (was sold) - only 2 have been sold to date. No other product listings, no actual acmepropcompany store or website anywhere. So I sent this reply:

Hey Lee,
…
No I did not steal your one idea. I used these for reference: http://new-savanna.blogspot.com/2011/04/desire-and-causality-in-road-runner.html I saw no wallpapers for these available. Excluding mine, there still aren’t any.
…
Is there anything here on my website - where I’ve posted thousands of ideas – that would give you the impression I need to steal? Seriously – do you think I need help in that regard?
…
Steal can be such a tricky word though. Selling posters on Etsy (likely without a license or permission from Warner Bros.) could actually be considered theft. Or even operating with a company name similar to a registered trademark, like, oh, Acme Company, could be an infringement. But hey, always the high road with you. I’m sure you’re legit.
…
Whereas posting high-res wallpapers for free is not a crime. But I can see how you thought I was selling posters illegally.
…
No I do not need help with geeky ideas. Would you like help with a second idea though?

I don’t like being a grump. I get lots of emails from many cool people. I get requests, I post other people’s ideas (even do art for them), and doing wallpapers is probably the one thing I can actually give people. All my ideas I post I want others to benefit from. If I wanted money I wouldn’t post anything.
…
Normally I’d do a retraction and make a note that states hey this actually exists with a link. I’ve done that for Green Skyscraper and Geek Bling: Howl’s Moving Castle. But he is selling one-off posters (and only the one it appears, small wonder I missed it when I made these), and I am giving away high-res wallpapers for free (different images from his poster even). If someone else had these wallpapers available I wouldn’t have bothered in the first place.

“Hey, you stole my blueprints that I stole from Warner Bros.!” “Oh, well… Maybe they won’t sue me cause I spelled ‘anvil’ wrong.”
I have family in the RCMP, and they would relate stories of how people would call the police saying someone stole their pot or meth, help! While this isn’t nearly as stupid, it has that same kind of entitlement and arrogance at play.
