There are plenty of moon lamps available out there. But what I have in mind is a normal light fixture that has a moon image that will glow-in-the-dark. So when the light is on it looks like the sun, and when it’s off it looks like the moon.
This was inspired by those neat Dinosaur coins the Canadian Mint is releasing.
This would be great for a kids room or the grownup stargazers among us. Would compliment a ceiling populated with glow-in-the-dark stars nicely.
I’m not entirely sure if this is possible - would the heat from the bulbs damage the glowing properties of the moon image? Can the moon image be opaque enough for the light to pass through? Maybe someone out there smarter than me (which isn’t saying a lot) can provide insight.
fluorescent Light Bulbs would not emit very much heat.
LED lights would work
Those fixtures would look really good on the lights in my living room and bedroom. I would love to own one 🙂
Maybe there is a DIY route for this item. I’ll look into it!
FYI There is a DIY route. 🙂 See my print of a moon model here: http://www.thingiverse.com/derivative:17191 It measures just shy of 8 inches in diameter and is completely hollow. My print isn’t glow in the dark but I could try it with some glow in the dark ABS I have.
I NEED THIS LIGHT…….. PLZ
This is exactly what I’m looking for and can not find anywhere!!!
Anyone ever figure this out? This is exactly what I’m looking for to put up in my son’s room. I see Dave was going to try something but i didn’t see a follow-up.
Not that I am aware. There’s a bunch of cool-looking moon lamps now available, try googling those.
I want one of these lamps where can I get it?
I SO want one of these moon dome ceiling light covers for each of our children’s rooms since we’re painting sky murals on their ceilings (one blue sky, and one space). But I seem to find anything close, other than over-priced hanging globes. If someone were to 3D print their own (especially glow-inthe-dark) to sell on Etsy/Ebay/etc, I think they would find a lot of demand for such an incredibly cool decor item. I’d definitely buy them.
Try a fixture with a power outlet, then use a small nightlight (one with a sensor) color the bulb blue with any kind of permanent marker and paint the insidevof the glass dome to replicate the moon. When the primary light goes off the sensor of the nightbulb will light up with a low bluish glow. As long as you seal the moon design it should be fine for years
Dave! Hello from the future! Do you mean to tell me this *doesn’t exist*? Even TODAY?!? It’s gorgeous. And, yes, this very adult woman would love this for an alcove in her bedroom.
Dave, you should’ve been working on this!
