Jurassic Park Blu-Ray Case Collector’s Tin

***MAJOR UPDATE: New version completed, images at the bottom of the post, full write-up and additional images here. ***

For one of the more recent trilogies, Jurassic Park hasn’t aged as well as say, Back the the Future. Still, these films are great popcorn rides, even if they have been (ironically) cloned by numerous Discovery channel dino specials.

Let’s take a look at what Universal Studios has done for previous Jurassic Park releases:

Like, who do ya got in there, King Kong? Oh I slay me. This was the most recent DVD release, a bargain one at that. This can be had for $10-13 (at least, wherever I have seen it).

This next release is one of those ‘board game’ releases I am none too fond of:

Appears to be a major cash grab before the release of the third film. As you can see, it comes with the soundtracks (nice), and a certificate of authenticity. It’s authentic!

Those are the only notable collectible releases in my opinion. As for Blu-Ray, this trilogy has yet to be given the high-def treatment. So I decided to design a cool case to mark the occasion, which is rumored for later this year (edit: 2011?):

Why not use a case that was featured in the films? Yup, that’s the container/cage used to transport the Velociraptor in the opening moments of the first film. I merely added a logo.

It can sit on it’s side like this, or if you’d prefer to keep it upright with the other Blu-Ray jewel cases, you can pivot the Jurassic Park logo 90 degrees and stand it upright - just like the PS logo on the drawer of the original Playstation 2:

Here is an alternate version with the full-color logo:

Anyways, when you open this puppy, you will likely re-enact the scene with a Robert Muldoon voice: “Loading team, step away! Gatekeeper! Raise the gate!”

Come to think of it, Muldoon had all the best lines in Jurassic Park: “Shoooot heeeeerrrrhhhh!” “They remembah.” “Clever gurrrl”.

Inside there will be 3 or 4 blue jewel cases with the discs, naturally. The outer sleeve would feature a dinosaur of some sort. It’s like they are being held captive. Genius. I’m totally under-appreciated in my time.

This is just the basic concept. It can be finessed to revolve around a collector’s tin, or even a basic jewel case release. Here’s hoping Universal Studios does something creative when they do get around to releasing it.

Here are some updated images of the case I fine-tuned. Go here to see more.
