11 Transformer Ideas Sent To iGear

The following is list of a product ideas sent to iGear Toys, a company which creates aftermarket accessories for Transformers. It is extremely geeky, and probably only of interest to TF Collectors, so you’ll have to check it out after the jump.

From my email to iGear: I have a few product ideas I’d like to give you guys:
1. Gun Rack. Remember those racks full of guns that flew by Neo and Trinity in the Matrix? I think you could offer a small version of that, which would allow people to clip/plug in all their loose TF weapons.
2. MP Megatron additions. I always thought this figure looked a bit flimsy around the legs and arms. Some attachments to make these wider and help Megatron appear more like MP Optimus would look great.
3. LED Energon blocks. We could use electromagnetic induction to trigger an LED light embedded inside cubes. The cubes would need to rest on a pad for their light to activate. Could create a cool Energon recharge station. OR have individual cubes, each with a power source and LED lights within that can be activated by pushing a panel in.
4. Revolving display stands for Deluxe figures. Possibly with LED lights, maybe some storage for weapons. USB-powered? You could also make a display case that looks like a G1 package, but with large display windows and a reflective foil interior (lights as well).
5. Transformers based on famous cars. Like the Ecto-1, Batmobile, etc. Make for some interesting crossovers.
6. Soundwave iPhone protective case with an actual compartment to hold cassette figures (would be on back of the case).
7. Designer wheel replacements. Would feature a die-cast rim and a rubber tire. But Hasbro made the wheels on their figures impossible to take off, it looks like.
8. Very easy one: A small L-shaped adapter that could turn the larger gun for Voyager Classics/Henkei Optimus Prime into a shield he can hold in his hand.
9. Like the one above, but a set of U-shaped adapters that allows figures to wield guns from other figures which are too big or too small.
10. A bow-like weapon that could be plugged into Classics Rodimus weapon instead of the flame missile.
11. Smaller arm cannons to plug into Classics Seekers that won’t impede arm movement (the current ones clash with the wings) and look more G1 like.
And there you have it. I was checking out iGear’s site when I saw they solicited ideas, so I blitzed them accordingly, as I tend to do.

  1. 1. gun rack would be cool, it would just need some holes for weapons posts and some bars for the new clip system weapons to snap onto.
    3. I have seen custom energon cubes made from reusable ice cubes, an LED, and a watch battery.
    4. whole revolving stands? or a display box with lights & custom deco with a Lazy Susan?
    5. there is fan-art for a classic Batmobile, Begins Tumbler, Ecto-1, and BTTF Delorean out there; having them as toys would be amazing, but legally very difficult.
    6. do you mean a rubber skin with his alt mode front printed on it? I think it would have to be printed on the back… holding figures would be cumbersome. did you know they made a functioning Soundwave mp3 player?
    7. since the wheels are so difficult to remove, making a thin rubber cap that goes on over the tire (like an iPod skin) might work. would most likely only work for deluxe cars/certain common wheel sizes. honestly, I want them for my ROTF leader Prime.

    • 1. Yep, clips and that mech-tech gun system from the upcoming DOTM line. 3. Is that a product for sale anywhere? I’d like to get a few! 4. Revolving Lazy Susan style so you can have an unobstructed 360-degree view of the figure 5. I’m sure there are ways, like how Fansproject makes their own figures. Also the video game Burnout Paradise had an expansion pack featuring celebrity cars that looked ‘similar’, but not exact, so there is breathing room legally. 6. Yes his alt-mode, probably part rubber part plastic. His alt mode would be on the back side, and yes I agree holding figures would make for an oversized cumbersome case. But the storage could be used for the USB Cable or other things. Plus it would look like you are talking into Soundwave, so a win win. 7. That is a great idea. I don’t see much room clearance for this add-on in many figures though. There has to be a way to remove the wheels! Looks like Hasbro uses nails instead of screws to hold them in…

  2. This is my idea for girl transformers:
    Autobots:

The autobots’ leader is one of the biggest Transformers in the world. Her name is Miss Perfect and she has Barbie signs, hearts, and rainbows. She is a dumptruck. Her power is shooting Flower Blades.

The next one is HeartBomb. She is a minivan. She shoots Heart Bombs.

Also, we have Barbee. She is a Toyota Camry. She shoots Barbie lasers.

Rainbow is a Ford Expedition and she shoots Acid Rainbows.

    Thank you,

    Isabella, age 8

    • Hey Isabella,

If you want to draw a picture of your girl Transformers, I’d be more than happy to post it. Make sure you write their names beside each robot.

Seems your brother doesn’t like girl Transformers! :p

      Thanks,

      -Dave

  3. I want all boy Autobots to destroy all girl Autobots.

  4. Seeing as how you’re a TF geek…do you visit TFW2005.com? The reason I ask…a number of clever people there have learned to use 3D modeling and a site called Shapeways to design and print TF toys and accessories. Others have sculpted accessories and then had them molded. Some of your ideas may be very doable without help from iGear.

In fact, TreadshotA1 has already devised a solution to your idea #11 - at least for Starscream / Thundercracker / Skywarp.

As for your #10, not quite what you had in mind, but Sunlink devised a crossbow.

He has also made a pistol to resemble G1 Hot Rod’s gun.

It looks like he’s working on his own versions of the Seekers’ weapons, too.

There’s a lot more out there…custom Targetmasters, melée weapons, alternate heads and hands, parts for customs, reproduction parts…I won’t list everything. Sadly, I haven’t purchased any of this stuff, but the feedback has always been good.

    Last link…Megatron31′s arms depot:

(He has weapons for the classics seekers too, just like you were looking for.)

I have no stake in any of these, BTW. Just trying to be helpful.
