More Music Recommendations
Every so often I’ll do a music-centric post where I share a bunch of songs that I feel are inspiring and get the creative juices flowing. So in no particular order:
1. I Remember - Deadmau5 (2008): I heard this song briefly in The Lincoln Lawyer, and had to seek it out. It’s a nice lengthy track that is hypnotic and adrenaline-inducing, and because you hear “remember” a few dozen times, it also feels introspective.
2. All Alone - Gorillaz (2005): This song starts off like a party and it feels like a carefree jam session, but once the female vocals arrive it soars to a whole new level.
3. Down Is The New Up - Radiohead (2007): I haven’t given In Rainbows enough playtime, so when this haunting medley played it left quite the lasting impression. Sort of like an intro song for a Bond film. I’m a sucker for orchestral accompaniment though.
4. Dollars And Cents - Radiohead (2001): Like the above song, this is a simple track that just escalates every time the violins stir and the drums roll. ‘Be constructive/with yer blues’ is a great motto too.
5. Age of Consent - Neverending White Lights (2005): Some Canadian content for you! Oddly enough my favorite part of this song is the end, which sounds like a neat little video game homage. I wouldn’t mind a full song sounding like that! Please don’t watch the video. Canada was a bizarre place several years back.
6. The Night Starts Here - Stars (2007): More Canadian awesomeness for you. This song just keeps adding layers.
7. Moan (Remix) - Trentemoller (2007) - If you liked the Deadmau5 track from above, you’ll dig this one. Try not to break out the glow sticks.
8. You’ll See It - Washed Out (2009) - These guys did “Feel It All Around”, which was adopted by Portlandia for their intro. From the same album, this track invokes a feeling of calm drunkenness without drinking a pint.
Honorable mention:
Empire Ants - Gorillaz (2010): I only listen to this song from the 2:15 mark onward. It’s really two different songs on the same track. Thankfully I can program iTunes to start this track when I like.
