Simply put this ceiling lamp looks like the helmet worn by Doc Brown the first Back to the Future. It is tethered by that “suction cup” that the Doc affixed to Marty McFly’s head.
Besides the main bulb, there would be LED lights throughout this light fixture, making it look like a fancypants chandelier.
If IKEA Made Geeky Furniture is a series of concept designs for geeks by a geek. These aren’t actual items for sale.
Probably be best to keep the LED rope light behind the mirror…you don’t want to see a blue or orange face staring back at you.
I made a few more items: A Portal ‘incinerator’ waste basket, and a companion cube dresser (complete with Portal mirror) – but they both looked really silly. They got the axe.
This desk is based on Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. It features a glass section in the shape of the Superman’s diamond logo. A corner configuration is shown, but a standard desk could also be made with this idea.
Here is a matching couch and chair that looks like the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance (the clamshell version). These would be decorated with cartridge pillows. Game screens can be accomplished by putting screenshots on blankets and draping the blankets on top.
This Rock Band/Guitar Hero carpet would look great in front of the TV, especially if you saw it in the same vantage point as you would in the games.
Wouldn’t it be fun to have the girders from Donkey Kong on your wall? They’d make a fine series of shelves if I may say so. I would also include some barrels for plants or to store other items.
It appears a designer named Igor Chak beat me to this idea, so kudos to him (I didn’t find any existing designs when I originally conceived this design).
