Now that superhero movies are becoming a regular fixture, I thought it would be fun to create a DVD rack that looked like a comic book display. I recall seeing racks like this in grocery stores and pharmacies, usually covered in Archie and Richie Rich titles.
The top of the rack would feature a backlit sign, which could double as a lamp in your living space.
Here is a floor lamp design based on the staff used by Gandalf. He often used it to emit light, so it felt appropriate for a lamp.
The staff was wielded by Gandalf the White. The one used by Gandalf the Grey looked a bit rough, more like a twig. The above design has a nice ivory look.
Simply put this ceiling lamp looks like the helmet worn by Doc Brown the first Back to the Future. It is tethered by that “suction cup” that the Doc affixed to Marty McFly’s head.
Besides the main bulb, there would be LED lights throughout this light fixture, making it look like a fancypants chandelier.
Just put some LED rope lights behind some round mirrors and you should get something resembling the portals seen in their namesake game. The Glados cameras would make for neat spotlights.
This desk is based on Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. It features a glass section in the shape of the Superman’s diamond logo. A corner configuration is shown, but a standard desk could also be made with this idea.
Here is a matching couch and chair that looks like the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance (the clamshell version). These would be decorated with cartridge pillows. Game screens can be accomplished by putting screenshots on blankets and draping the blankets on top.
This was inspired by DIY Creators’ Floating Desk, I just went with a Floppy Disk look. The disk holes make for really good grommets! This is a generic design, I think it would look cooler if it had a Commodore 64 or Apple II theme.
You could probably build a PC into the back panel if you wanted, or at the very least incorporate a power strip into it, for tidier cable management.
