Elevator Pitches

Hunger Games video game, Star Trek Frontier TV Show, Mega Man metroidvania 2020 dave delisle davesgeekyideas

An elevator pitch is where you try to sell an idea in as short a time as possible, and I will attempt to do that here for some shows and video games I would like to see.

  1. Hunger Games video game. Battle Royale games are all the rage these days, but with platforms like Twitch and YouTube Gaming, audiences could now get involved. Viewers could help players with items and weapons, or vote on ways to make their lives miserable. Should be fun.
  2. Mega Man Metroidvania video game. Having recently played Hollow Knight, a large world littered with powerful bosses would make for a compelling Mega Man experience. When Mega Man is killed, he would be immediately cloned and have the option of visiting his prior death location to reclaim weapons and items, much like a similar system in Hollow Knight.
  3. Star Trek Frontier TV show. The USS Frontier is a massive mobile shipyard, capable of building a fleet of ships on demand. Its new mission: to travel to the very edge of the universe. This is possible thanks to a breakthrough wormhole drive that can propel the ship hundreds of thousands of light years in a matter of seconds. The mission should take several years. So why use a mobile shipyard? It constructs a series of “transport relays” that will help everyone get back home in a matter of months; it’s a one-way journey for the ship, but the crew will teleport home in the end. So what will they find at the edge of the universe?
  4. He-Man animated TV show. I pitched this elsewhere as an animated comedy: all the characters of Eternia now use pro wrestling to solve their disputes, a sport they glimpsed on Earth (not knowing it was scripted a la Galaxy Quest). It would parody the WWE, but also poke fun at MOTU. Nearly all of the characters are heavily invested in every match and feud.
  5. Scooby-Doo WHEN Are You? animated TV show. The gang is mistakenly dubbed the “greatest detectives of all time”, so they are gifted a time machine from an advanced alien race. The aliens hope that the gang can solve all of the great mysteries that were lost to the passage of time. Unfortunately, the gang believe the aliens to be people wearing disguises, so they start mashing buttons on the time machine (thinking it to be another hoax). Scooby-Doo and his pals then embark on a series of adventures throughout time, because they don’t know how to use the alien time machine. It’s sort of like Quantum Leap in a way, they just want to get back home. They also keep meddling with the timeline. I didn’t say every pitch was good!

I have a few more pitches kicking around in my head, but they don’t involve a popular intellectual property so they may not interest you! But I am thinking of writing them in short story form. Maybe someday.

He-Man USB Wall Adapter

The THOR Hammer Tool Set was recently given the mini treatment, thought I’d do the same for the He-Man power bar that I posted a few years ago. This time the power sword is a compact USB wall adapter that also doubles as a Nite Lite.

I wanted this to be illuminated to simulate the “I have the POWER” sequence. It lights up when something is plugged-in, or automatically at night thanks to a light sensor.

The power prongs fold down to make this convenient for travel. A purple variant for Skeletor could also be done, something I didn’t mention in that power bar post. In hindsight I would also like the old power bar design to be illuminated, like this other power bar I designed.

HE-MAN Power Bar

By the POWER of Grayskull! I’ve been wanting to design a gadget based on Castle Grayskull for several years, along the lines of a USB Hub or Car Charger. I decided to go with a power bar design based on He-Man’s sword because it would be life-size and more functional. Plus there are no geeky power bars in existence.

There’s room for more outlets and USB ports if the red switch was removed and made into a remote switch (like this old design). The power cable extends from the end of the hilt.

If the sword could power-up Prince Adam and Cringer, why didn’t He-Man point it at his allies to help their abilities as well? Hey Man-At-Arms, you are now a walking tank. Orko, you are now a powerful sorcerer. Seems kinda selfish if you ask me.

Weird Ideas And Musings

Transformers Vacuum, Skeletor Coat Rack, Automated Driver for Garbage by Dave's Geeky Ideas

Thought I’d post a few weird ideas that were sitting on the drawing board for awhile. From left to right:

Transformers Vacuum - This is a weird one, but a canister vacuum that looks like Decepticon Mixmaster. Transforms from cement mixer to vacuum. This could also have a Tonka appearance.

Skeletor Havoc Staff Coat Rack - Park your coats here or remove the staff from the base and use it as a prop to command your ineffectual henchmen.

Automated Driving Cart For Garbage - Automated cars will be filling the landscape over the next decade, but I think baby steps are in order. How about an automated cart that drives your garbage bins to the curb and back? It could run on solar power, which would charge over the 6 days between trips.

Musings:

Speaking of garbage bins, wouldn’t it be nice if they came with a latch so you can hook them together like a train and drag them out to the curb in one go? They already have a bar in the front for the garbage truck to grab, so you just need a hook in the back.

Switched over to the LED bulbs in my apartment. They cast a nauseating and sterile white light. Why don’t they make them emit a soft amber color like old-school bulbs? I miss the “warmth” of the old bulbs. It looks like a department store in here. EDIT: they do make “yellow” LED bulbs, but I have yet to see them on shelves.

I murdered yet another spatula with my culinary prowess. There needs to be true teflon-coated spatula that can withstand the heat and be gentle on your cookware. Seems like a no-brainer to me (there are a few marketed as “teflon” but they are just nylon coated).

Responses to these are welcome! Or share your own musings below.
