Transformers Trilogy Blu-Ray Case Work-In-Progress
UPDATE: This case has been completed. Check it out here.
Happy 2o11! I start the year off with my second concept for Transformers, this time for the live-action films. The third film Dark Of The Moon is coming out this July, so inevitably we’ll be getting a trilogy box set by the end of the year.
And with so many people already getting Blu-Rays for Transformers (2007) and Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen (2009), I think Paramount/Hasbro could do a special release to acknowledge those who already splurged on those movies, without having to spend a mint on a redundant box set:
A Blu-Ray case in the form of Optimus Prime’s trailer, which will appear in DOTM (pictured at the top of the post).
If I were Hasbro/Paramount, I’d make a ubiquitous case that can double as the Blu-Ray container and an accessory for the Leader Class Optimus Prime toy. This way, consumers would have the option of buying the case to either store their Transformers movies, or as an accessory for their Optimus Prime toy.
Of course you could probably sell this complete with the trilogy. Although I doubt many people will grab the trilogy, as the prior two films have been among the best-selling Blu-Rays of all time.
To fit the diamond cases, the back of the trailer is sunken to about the wheel axle level. The back gate would be double-hinged to allow for the discs to be removed, and to have a normal ramp for hitchhiking Autobots to board. This design makes for an excellent multitasking product. The three cases don’t require much width, so there would be adequate platforms/ledges for ‘bot movement and parking.
As a toy it would do the job, although I’m not sure what the trailer will actually be doing in the film (armor? base?). Needless to say, Hasbro will likely be issuing a trailer as part of their DOTM product line this summer.
Is it out of the question to release something like this? Not at all. Hasbro already released a Masterpiece Optimus Prime ( a huge 12″ toy) alongside the 20th Anniversary DVD release.
I will be finishing this concept with box and disc art, as well as a few more details. I think this would look like a sharp package, as the blue that lines the trailer just screams Blu-Ray, and would look great parked on a shelf.
