A First For Dave’s Geeky Ideas
I designed this mechanical case for the Assassin’s Creed Revelations box set, due out this fall - only for Europe though (sorry). Here is the purchase link.
It’s a cool design: You slide the logo down, pushing the two top wedges on rails to the sides of the case. Those wedges are then pivoting on a vertical plank like a see-saw. There are weights which then tilt the wedges down, pulling the game upwards (it’s on a platform which is anchored to the wedges).
This is the first thing I have ever designed that has advanced to production! It’s quite surreal to see it. If you’d like to check out other box set designs, hit that ‘Blu-Ray’ link on the right.

I really want to see this box in action (I might actually watch an unboxing video o_O), but even without seeing it, congrats in advance.
It’s nice to see that some video game companies care enough to do stuff like this for limited editions. I remember getting COD4 “Limited Edition” and it came in a slightly larger paper box (to fit the ginormous artbook) that was colored silver :/
I have detailed animations (some x-ray in appearance), but I cannot post them for NDA reasons. We’ll see soon enough!
An unboxing video - now that would be surreal.
