Xbox 720 Update
I am still plugging away on the 720 project, and it’s taking me a bit longer than I thought, but I am actually quite happy to take my time with it - there is no hurry really.
So I made this controller body but now I am reconsidering the analog sticks and D-pad design. All those rumors about the Steam console (which is netting me a lot of traffic for this old post) featured a controller patent with swappable D-pad, analog sticks, and tracking ball. Perhaps this swappable feature will become the industry standard?
Anyways my current design for the most part hasn’t derived too much from the current 360 pad. One suggestion to make the D-pad flush with the controller was rather genius — perhaps the unpopular D-pad on the 360 is due in part to the raised platform it sits on? I’m beginning to think the raised platform was a cosmetic decision to make the pad more symmetrical in appearance.
As for what else the controller will feature, you’ll have to wait! I hope to do a full console and controller reveal in the coming weeks.
