Jurassic Park Entertainment Center

This design started out as a wardrobe, which was really boring. Then I saw some entertainment centers with sliding barn doors and thought they were cool so I ran with that instead. The barn doors are my personal preference, they may not be for everyone.

Coffee Table For Gadget Lovers

All my devices, cables, and game controllers are plaguing me like Tribbles, so I came up with this simple design: a coffee table with an easel, plus storage and USB charging. Perfect for couch-bound geeks everywhere.

The easel faces the couch, and you can park your phones, tablets, and remotes on it. Now you can always see who is calling, or watch your tablet with ease.

A large drawer opens up to reveal storage for game controllers and cables, or whatever you want to toss inside. Those things called “books” could be stored in here, if you’d like.

3D TV For Retro Gaming

Retro Gaming 3D TV clear display LCD design by Dave Delisle davesgeekyideas

Those fancy 3D TVs are pretty much extinct nowadays, but I think there could be a new and fun way to apply the idea, no glasses needed. However this would strictly be for retro gaming, covering most systems from the 80’s and 90’s. This wouldn’t be ideal for watching Avatar.

Star Trek Soundbar

Just a rehash of an old idea, but now the viewscreen lights are embedded into a soundbar (which are all the rage these days). It makes more sense in a few ways: many soundbars have small indicator lights to denote volume or input, and the soundbar’s location beneath the TV is an ideal placement for the viewscreen lights.

Dr. Evil Streaming Remote

Dr. Evil Austin Powers Streaming Remote Design by Dave Delisle davesgeekyideas 2018

Do you like this quasi-futuristic remote I designed? It’s based on the device used by Dr. Evil to fire his employees. It’s intended to be a streaming remote, compatible with devices like the Roku or Chromecast. It enables users to fire up their preferred streaming service at the push of a button.

The one major change I made was the addition of a rotary joystick in the middle. It can be moved for navigating menus, pressed like a button, and rotated for volume control. This sort of input is common in cars with infotainment displays.

This remote sits on a coffee table, though it shouldn’t be too cumbersome to hold or place on your lap. It may need to be plugged into a PC or programmed from a smartphone app, much like a Logitech Harmony remote. It would come with numerous labels for all the streaming services, and it shouldn’t be too difficult to print your own if needed.

Alexa The Game Show Host

The Echo Show is an Alexa assistant with a display, and I think the killer app for this device is game shows like Jeopardy where Alexa serves as the host. Alexa can display the game, narrate questions, listen for answers, and keep track of score.

Nintendo Entertainment Center

This entertainment center is a copy of the ‘World of Nintendo’ display case that used to reside in video game stores back in the 90’s, minus the sliding glass on the front. It’s the ideal size for a flat panel display and some game consoles.
