UPDATE: You can now buy a high-res poster of this image here.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Jurassic Park post, and even longer since I released a geeky wallpaper (not counting train maps), so this fits the bill nicely. This wallpaper recreates the desktop seen in the first film.

Avengers Collection Blu-Ray Case

This is a case designed to hold a plethora of Marvel films that constitute The Avengers, both the team and their respective solo outings. It is based on the Helicarrier, which is the Avengers and SHIELD’s flying fortress (I’m sure you knew that).

Star Wars Blu-Ray Case

This is a really basic design: R2D2’s body is essentially a canister of Blu-Ray discs (approximately a dozen discs). Each disc is accessible via an extending drawer:

Each drawer is manually opened. To ensure the disc is fully clear of R2’s body the drawers would telescope (almost like extending the dinner table to add a center cross piece).

This case would be on the bigger side: about 7″ wide and 9 - 10″ tall. Given its size I feel it has room for lights and sounds, which I’m sure most fans would love.

Portal Turrets Music Speakers

Portal Turret Speakers by Dave Delisle

Here’s a pair of Portal-themed speakers that would flank your gaming PC. The red eyes would pulse to the audio of the music. In all likelihood these would be static speakers to avoid noisy motors, but if possible these guys would “dance” just like in the game (when they sang at the end of Portal 2).

Dexter Blu-Ray Case

Really straightforward design: a blu-ray case based on Dexter’s blood slides box, where the discs are the drops of blood and the clear jewel cases are the slides. This would be about the size of a shoebox.

UPDATES: I originally posted this with several images, but I opted to redo this post (April 12/2014) with a brand-new solitary image and a much shorter write-up. At the time I originally posted this (exactly 3 years ago!) the show was only 5 years old, which is why I left so much space in the box.

Also in the fall of 2013 Showcase released their own box set that had a similar approach:

I think it looks really good, despite the smaller cases. Might look even better without the red liners in each case. Had my enthusiasm for the show not plummeted in the later seasons I would’ve bought this for sure.

Lord of the Rings Floor Lamp

Gandalf LOTR tall lamp design by Dave Delisle

Here is a floor lamp design based on the staff used by Gandalf. He often used it to emit light, so it felt appropriate for a lamp.

The staff was wielded by Gandalf the White. The one used by Gandalf the Grey looked a bit rough, more like a twig. The above design has a nice ivory look.
