Predicting The Nintendo Project Cafe Part 2
A few days ago I guesstimated what the new Wii 2/Wii HD/Project Cafe might look like. Today I thought I’d attempt a concept of what the controller might look like.
If it looks like an iPhone to you, that’s because all of the rumors describing this controller state that it will have a 6″ touch screen as well as 8 buttons, 2 analog sticks, and a directional pad (EDIT: and a camera! Forgot to include that).
So based on that description I essentially made half of the 3DS clamshell design, and added a second analog stick.
I made the 2 analog sticks in the style of the recently-released 3DS. They certainly make for a slimmer and compact design, which is helpful when you have a large touch screen crammed in there. More after the jump…
Having owned a Dreamcast, I don’t see the need for a screen in the controller, let alone a large touch screen. But then again I didn’t see a need for a secondary touch screen or motion controls 5 years ago, and Nintendo surprised me on both counts.
It also doesn’t make sense financially. Controllers like this would command something in the $100 area (that’s a generous estimate), and it might be too much for a gamer to pick up a second one. Also, with a screen of this size, they may as well have a mobile gaming aspect. It could be a junior DS of some kind - download games to the console and play them on here.
Apparently the Project Cafe console will support multiple controllers (including the Wiimote and Wii Classic Controller) so there may be a basic controller that serves as the primary one, with this touch-screen version being the premium model.

WOW! I am loving all your creative ideas Dave!!! I’m also very intrigued to know what the next gen console and controller will look like by Nintendo so I my self have been a busy bee. It’s nice to know there is someone out there who thinks similar to me.
Here is my idea for the controller, which I named the nStream.
Jade.
You know what they say, great minds think alike. Though the description that has been leaking out doesn’t give us a whole lot to work with, y’know! A 6″ screen is no easy thing to work around.
If you’d like, I can feature your video and images in a ‘Reader’s Ideas’ post. Let me know if that works for you.
Below are a couple of images of the nStream too

That would be sweet if you could feature me
Did you use Solidworks to make your 3d model? I looks so rad!
Jade.
No, I used Maya Learning Edition. Thanks for liking it, it was simple to do - just added a glass face a la iPhone 4 to make it look fancy.
Look for a post soon!
Nice! I’ve recently learnt Solidworks so I’m going to try make a 3D version of my idea at some stage.
Thanks for considering me for your blog, can’t wait to check it out
Have a great weekend!
