A Hall Tree is a coat rack combined with a storage bench that is parked by the front door or in a mud room; here are some examples. I feel these Hall Trees could be made to look like player lockers from the pro leagues (NHL, NBA, NFL, etc.). The above design is based on the actual lockers belonging to the Calgary Flames, but you could do this with any pro team. Read the rest of this entry
Spring is here, so I thought it would be fun to make a geeky tent design that would be perfect for all of your away missions: I present a tent design based on the shuttlecraft from Star Trek. It’s not such a far-fetched idea; Star Trek V began with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy camping in the great outdoors. Read the rest of this entry
This is a combination of THREE hobbies I had when I was kid: tabletop hockey, hockey cards, and hockey sticker albums. I present a mini tabletop hockey set that is adorned with players and stickers found in hockey card packs. This sort of thing would only be possible if a tabletop manufacturer partnered with a hockey card maker.
I was just thinking about how these things I enjoyed as a kid are essentially extinct today. To make these ancient things appealing to today’s kids, I felt a combination of toys and playing cards might draw their attention, sort of like Bakugan. Read the rest of this entry
You can buy a high-res poster here.
As you know I do replicas of posters seen in film and television, and my newest entry is a tribute to one of my all-time favorite films, Diggstown (1992). It’s a clean and simple design, the only change I made was to the beer sponsor; it says Millen but if you squint it looks like Miller.
If you haven’t seen Diggstown, it’s a fun popcorn film worth checking out. Yeah it has the production value of a TV-movie, and a few cheesy scenes, but the good far outweighs the bad.
This concept for the Calgary Flames is an arena shaped like a stetson hat, thanks to a pair of flanking ramps that usher fans into the upper concourse.
3 o’clock? More like Luigi o’clock, amiright? I say this because the hands on the clock look like an ‘L’…okay that joke was funnier in my head.
Anyways, whenever I see one of those fancy torsion pendulum clocks, specifically ones with the the orb-shaped weights, I am reminded of the Koopa shells spinning around a racer in Mario Kart.
With the shell weights being suspended by a clear plastic (or glass) pillars, it would almost look like they are being self-propelled (I used a clear blue material so you can see them here).
I went with a tire and rim for the main clock, but other Mario Kart imagery could be used instead. One note: the shells wouldn’t spin around in one direction continuously, they’d reverse direction every 15 – 20 seconds – I couldn’t express that in the GIF.
Here’s hoping such a clock could be made. It would be the sort of family heirloom geeks would covet.
