Xbox 720 Design: War Machine
Several weeks back I asked readers to submit their ideas for an Xbox 720 Console. Things started out normally, but this past week I diverged from the original idea of a mass-market model to this specialty model that would cater to the Call Of Duty and Battlefield crowd — similar to that Star Wars console released a few months back.
Essentially this console is based on a machine gun. I got the idea when I set out to include 2 hard drive loading bays at the top of the console, which reminded me of a magazine of bullets being loaded into a gun. I then just went all out with the theme.
I also liked all the grills and vents that adorn a gun, and felt the look would be suitable for a console that also needed to keep cool.
Other gun-like features include a power switch that is based on a gun safety switch. The Xbox logo is not a light, but would be a mirror similar to a scope (like this). Maybe one day I’ll make the power supply, which would be based on an ammunition case.
This console would look great in black too, I just used a grey here so you can see it better.

what is the F/S switch on the front for? it looks like it might get knocked off easily
If you read the post, you’ll see I described the power switch. It’s based on a gun safety (Fire/Safety). They do not fall off ever.
I didn’t make the connection between that bit in the description and the actual part on the render. Safety switches are usually more streamlined (and I know they don’t fall off), I was just saying the selector switch on your render looks like it could break off if the console is being loaded up to be moved into/out of a dorm room, etc, with less than utmost care. Babies love switches, and most consoles are placed at baby height, which could lead to some unfortunate power losses for adult gamers.
All in all your concept is really cool, that part just stuck out at me as being troublesome.
Looks like a disguised gun, but as long as I get to shoot somebody online or off
build me a computer case………..now!
