Street Fighter II Globe Map

Street Fighter II Map Globe design by Dave Delisle davesgeekyideas 2018

Went with Street Fighter II for this globe design because the characters look good wrapped around the stand, however this idea could be applied to any geeky property that has its own world map: The Hobbit, World of WarCraft, The Last Airbender, Elder Scrolls, A Song Of Ice And Fire, and so on.

Apologies for the sparse map, I used the one from the very first version of Street Fighter II because it was easier to apply to a globe. Given more time I would incorporate a few more countries, including obscure ones like Canada.

Fix It Felix Jr. Mini Tool Set

This Fix It Felix Jr. idea began as a full-size arcade cabinet that stored a tool chest and tool organizer (may post that design one day soon), but I felt a mini tool set would have wider appeal, so I went with that here. This is a functional mini arcade game that doubles as a case for a set of tools.

This opens up like a book to reveal the tools. It’s possible for the arcade to emit the phrase “I can fix it!” when opening the case, but that might get annoying after awhile.

The tools are for gadget-minded folks, no hammers or wrenches here. Included are a pair of pliers, wire cutters, wire strippers, precision screwdrivers, and more. I know the character used a hammer, but that would’ve made this too big.

Office Space Desk Lamp

Office Space Red Stapler Swingline desk lamp design by Dave Delisle

Used to own one of these red Swingline staplers, it looked cool on the desk but I never used it so I donated it to a thrift store when I moved a few years ago. Now if it had the everyday functionality of a lamp, I probably would’ve kept it.Office Space Red Stapler Swingline desk lamp design by Dave Delisle

Really simple design, it unfolds from a stapler to become a lamp. There’s no way it can retain stapler functionality due to the internal electrical wiring, but perhaps a solution could be found by people smarter than me (Edit: a “staperless” staple could be added, a suggestion from a reader).

Iron Man Garage Set

After I posted that THOR Hammer Tool Box a few months ago my first thought was, Iron Man is the handy one, he should get a cool tool set too. Tony Stark’s love of cars inspired me to create something specifically for garage-dwelling gearheads: a DUM-E robot comprised of things found in your typical garage.

DUM-E is made up of a shop-vac, pressure washer, mechanic’s creeper, and leaf blower. The latter three all attach to the main vacuum body, and can be removed as needed.

THOR Hammer Tool Kit

UPDATE: This is now a real product, head here for details. Original post as follows:

When it comes to tools there isn’t much in the way of geeky-themed hardware or accessories. Hoping to address this oversight, I present a THOR Hammer tool kit, for those times when you need to swing a hammer. This compact tool box features several tools and a socket set, for those minor jobs around the house that call for a superhero.

When not being carried around for Asgardian cosplay, this hammer opens up to reveal all the tools stored inside. The handle is shared with an actual hammer, which is fastened into a removable tray. Beneath the tray is a reservoir for loose tools and nuts/bolts.

Star Wars Cooler

As you probably know, geeks enjoy going to the beach so they can kick sand at helpless muscleheads, because we need to assert our dominance constantly. All of the taunting and bullying can make a geek thirsty, so it’s imperative to keep cold beverages nearby. With that dilemma in mind, I give you: the Sandcrawler cooler!
