Top Gear has a “fastest lap” competition, where celebrity guests race against the clock. The racers use the same car, and drive on the same track. The type of car changes every so often, but generally speaking it’s an even playing field for all participants.

I think this formula would make for a killer free-to-play mobile game. I’m choosing mobile for this one, because this game is small in scope and quick to play — about a minute per session.

Besides the volume knob this doesn’t have any moving parts. The “spinning” is made possible by embedding an e-ink screen (like those seen on a Kindle) into the record label. The end result is kind of an illusion, if you can look past the thicker record.

This could be a Bluetooth speaker or Personal Assistant (Alexa/Siri), and would be compact in size. The speaker is located in the base. The display could juggle artists and songs, but it would probably be easier to display the current app, such as Spotify or Apple Music. The metal spindle is pegged into a glass cover that overlays the display. E-ink displays don’t suffer burn-in so the spinning image can always be active when the device is. And lastly E-ink displays are available in full-color too.

With back-lit arcade buttons being more and more commonplace these days, I feel there’s a lot of potential for themed buttons. These wouldn’t be used for the primary play buttons, they are intended for secondary buttons like player select and menu. The ones for Street Fighter above are normal buttons with a teardrop-shaped mount.

I was looking into getting some RGB-lighted fans for my desktop, but then I saw how they were installed and decided to pass. While RGB stuff looks great, they add a bunch of wires and need dedicated software to customize their appearance, which can be a pain if you buy stuff from a variety of brands (Razer, Corsair, MSI, etc.).

I’d like to see a new universal RGB standard baked into motherboards that would control all the RGB lights for both on-board hardware and external peripherals, regardless of the manufacturer.

Steadicam VR Rig?

That is a question mark in the title, because I honestly don’t know if this will work: using a Steadicam arm rig to hold a VR headset. The goal is not to create a stabilized image, but to reduce the weight of the VR headset to almost nothing, while allowing complete movement of the user (within arm’s reach, literally). At least that is my theory.

The gimbals are directly above the head. The arm is affixed to a heavy pillar, that acts like a Steadicam operator. A chin strap may be needed to keep the headset on the user’s noggin. This rig could allow for really heavy headsets with huge displays and speakers, the whole nine yards. But again, I’m not really sure. Makes you think though.

It looks like the internet is here to stay! Why do we still treat it like an afterthought in our homes? By that I mean the hardware/installation of the internet piggybacks on outlets meant for televisions and phones. Shouldn’t we have a dedicated access point for the internet?
