Portal Personal Assistant

Alexa Siri portal personal assistant design by Dave Delisle

I am very intrigued by the potential of Amazon’s line of personal assistants (Alexa and Echo), my hope is that one day we get HAL 9000 and GLaDOS versions of the device. Thought I would take a stab at the latter, but GLaDOS’ robotic body doesn’t fit so I enlisted the Companion Cube and the incinerator. This would still feature GLaDOS’ voice, in an ideal world.

Nintendo Switch Lamp

At first glance this is your typical LED desk lamp, with adjustable arm and pivoting light, nothing special. You park it by the couch or bed, and it blends into the scenery. But upon closer inspection this lamp becomes a handy device for for Switch gamers.

In reality it’s a cradle/mount for the Switch console. The handheld can be attached to either side of the light casing using its Joy-Con connectors. You can also charge the Switch by plugging it into a USB port on the ‘neck’ of the lamp. Charging is indicated by a small red light.

The lamp affords an elevated and adjustable display, allowing you to just hold a controller while sitting in bed or on the couch. And if you want to lie down, the screen could be placed directly overhead. The future is now, couch potatoes.

Transformers PC Tower Case

Soundwave PC case mod by Dave Delisle davesgeekyideas Dave's Geeky Ideas

Those aren’t cassette spindles, they are PC case fans which help keep your expensive hardware cool. It was that idea that launched my latest design: a PC tower case based on the infamous Decepticon, Soundwave. Consoles inferior, PC superior, the monotone robot would say.

Baymax Suitcase

This actually started out as a First-Aid kit design, but then I saw those wheels on Baymax’s charging station in the film and decided to make this a suitcase instead. Probably for the better, suitcases are more likely to be seen and used than your typical household First-Aid kit.

Iron Giant Coffee Table

Iron Giant coffee table by Dave Delisle

Had this idea for years, I just didn’t want to post it because it may be too ugly/weird for this blog. Seeing as the Iron Giant Blu-ray release is around the corner, I’m in a good mood so I felt like sharing it now.

As you can see, it’s a life-size replica of the titular robot’s detached hand, parked in the living room just like a scene from the film. Frozen as though it were trying to remain incognito, this giant hand serves as a coffee table for geeks.

Iron Man Garage Set

After I posted that THOR Hammer Tool Box a few months ago my first thought was, Iron Man is the handy one, he should get a cool tool set too. Tony Stark’s love of cars inspired me to create something specifically for garage-dwelling gearheads: a DUM-E robot comprised of things found in your typical garage.

DUM-E is made up of a shop-vac, pressure washer, mechanic’s creeper, and leaf blower. The latter three all attach to the main vacuum body, and can be removed as needed.

Transformers Bunk Bed

Transformers Bunk Bed design by Dave Delisle davesgeekyideas

Another bunk bed design, this one based on interim Autobot leader Ultra Magnus. His car carrier/transport alt-mode is ideal for a bunk bed configuration, with the truck cab being used for storage.

If you want to take this idea even further, you could park a few car beds on it (both given an Autobot makeover of course), but that would require an even bigger Ultra Magnus.

Side note: here is a cool Optimus Prime bunk bed that was made for a couple of lucky rugrats.
