If I Had A Lawn I’d Rent It Out To Bugs Bunny
If I did have a lawn of any kind, I’d set this up. None of that Gnome or Flamingo business! This lawn ornament idea will give neighbors the impression that a certain silly wabbit has taken up residence on your property. For those who do have a lawn of some kind, they could probably get all this at Home Depot today. The mailbox, decal letters, and a wooden post.
Ideally it would be a smaller mailbox, I just used this size so you can see it in the picture! As for the hole, I recommend burying two small stacked black potting plants, so you can remove the top-most one and empty it if need be. A round black stone could also do the trick. I’d also make the mailbox removable for easier mowing. If you want to mess with the mailman once in awhile you could leave half-eaten carrots strewn about near the hole.
Sorry for all the Looney Tunes posts as of late. I guess when I work on one idea featuring LT, they all sort of creep into my head.
Pepé Le Pew Fragrance Bottle
I mentioned this in the earlier Penelopé Pussycat post, but I’ve been meaning to use Pepé for a long time. It seems fitting he should be placed on a fragrance bottle of some sort. Read the rest of this entry
The Next Billion-Dollar Brand Label For Women!
So I have been thinking for months about how to use Pepé Le Pew, a favorite character of mine. I figured he’d make a cool aftershave or cologne bottle, and was about to make something along those lines when I remembered Penelope Pussycat, the hapless cat Pepé would pursue in all of his cartoons. She screams fashion, fragrance, and cosmetics. Read the rest of this entry
Dr. Claw Chair Cover
I’m in a real cartoon frame of mind these days, so you’ve been warned! Forecast calls for lots of immaturity and nostalgia.
Originally I thought of a Dr. Claw (villain from Inspector Gadget) executive chair for my IKEA series this past winter, but I put it on the backburner and forgot about it. Returning to the idea, I now see it as overkill just for the purpose of having that famous MAD logo embroidered on the back.
Now I think it would be best if you could turn any chair into the property of a diabolical villain with a seat cover of some sort. Something that could cover the entire seat (like a car seat cover) or just a simple towel-like thing you could drape over the top of the chair.
I am biased, but I have to say this kind of simplicity works. It’s very geeky and makes for a great sight gag, as Dr. Claw was essentially glued to his computer - now you’ll look the part when surfing the web. Just remember to pound your desk and exclaim “I’ll get you next time Gadget! NEXT TIME!”
Hopefully a T-Shirt company on the interweb is interested and produces this item. The Mad logo printed on a small polyester or canvas flag would do the trick. Anyone know of a T-Shirt company that accepts submissions?
DuckTales Piggy Bank
The title pretty much explains it all: DuckTales Piggy Bank. For those who are fans of the show, you’ll recognize this piggy bank as Scrooge McDuck’s coin vault, or coin swimming pool* - depending on who you ask.
Surprisingly this one does not exist, a rare product oversight by Disney. Hopefully they can deliver something like this one day.
*Seriously, how did Scrooge not get seriously injured diving 50 feet into a large pile of coins? He should have suffered Wile E. Coyote-like injuries.
Calvin and Hobbes Papercraft: Transmogrifier Diorama
I’m trying to better my papercraft skills, so I thought I’d start simple by building the Weighted Companion Cube from Portal. Even that was too difficult! Why not something as simple as a cardboard box? *light-bulb goes off*
That is just the base Companion Cube for comparison. You should see how many pieces are required for the full thing!
I then created this Calvin and Hobbes Transmogrifier diorama. The box is fully Papercraft, the characters are stand-up cut-outs. Right now it’s in black and white (just like the original cartoon), but I may put up a color version later this week if there are requests for it. I thought this would be a very simple Papercraft project for first-timers. Plus it looks great anywhere (even just the box alone). Probably as close as we’ll ever get to Calvin and Hobbes action figures - though I always thought that was an impossibility to begin with, as Calvin’s hairline is just impossible to reproduce in 3D or sculpted form. Here it is (black and white), click to enlarge and then right-click to save: Bill Watterson really made small flaps for this box I noticed. How did it ever keep anything in there? Ah well.
