Richard Bachman’s Anti-Graffiti Wall
April 23, 2011
A reader who requested anonymity sent this idea in, a wall that thwarts graffiti. I’m not sure why anonymity was asked for - perhaps this person is a frequent target of street artists? The shame of appearing on my nerdy blog? Anyways I dub this person Richard Bachman, a famous pseudonym.
Basically a wall would have two sets of bars (similar to a jail cell) that are affixed to rails placed in front of it. This makes the wall hard to get at, and obscures any image painted on it. And if someone decides to paint on the wall and bars (to make some kind of clever perspective art), all you have to slide one or both sets of bars horizontally to distort or mangle the image.
To further complicate things, each set of bars would be painted in a contrasting fashion. Black and white in this case. This would make painting a bit difficult, as you’d need to compensate your light and dark colors to appear somewhat uniform. I’d recommend painting the wall itself in a black and white striped pattern too.
This wouldn’t be prudent to put all over the place. Artists will find their canvas somewhere. But it may be ideal for a place that is frequently tagged and needs to combat the vandalism in some form. Also, I’m not sure if people would like the ‘jail cell’ look, but it would look like an intimidating place, I imagine.
