Smart Mailboxes
The big news in Canada this week is that Canada Post will be phasing out door-to-door delivery for all urban centres (thanks Obama). This means Canadians who currently get mail delivered right to their house will now have to head to their friendly neighborhood communal mailbox to retrieve their mail. Read the rest of this entry
Playstation 4 TV
I’ve already gone on record saying TV manufacturers should be more cavalier when it comes to the design of their TVs, and I’m sad to say not much has changed on that front! But what about plain-looking TVs that compliment other products? Read the rest of this entry
Mickey Mouse Smartphone Cradle
This is one of those no-brainer ideas that I’m surprised doesn’t exist: you take the classic Mickey Mouse phone and use that as the basis for a cradle/dock for modern smartphones or tablets.
At a fraction the size of the original phone, this is essentially a figurine on a stand. The phone would be held in place by the base/dock, so Mickey wouldn’t have to do any heavy lifting. It would just appear that he is propping up the phone.
This cradle would be a great accessory for viewing or charging your device. I certainly would love one on my desk.
There are a few homages to the classic phone on the market currently, but nothing quite like this. Also I have to say I’m surprised that this didn’t already happen, mostly because Steve Jobs was heavily involved with Disney/Pixar in addition to overseeing Apple.
Here’s hoping this becomes a reality one day.
Supernatural Blu-Ray Case: The Devil’s Gate
I just started watching Supernatural these past few months. Previously I didn’t give the show a chance because I thought it was just another Smallville (which I got tired of and quit after 3 or 4 seasons). I have to say Supernatural holds up to Buffy and Angel very well, and is pretty much a love letter to geeks in my opinion. I’m hooked! Read the rest of this entry
Ouija Board Coffee Table And Carpet
UPDATE: Almost a year later and I’m still getting a lot of interest in this design. If you absolutely want one, contact my friends at Tom Spina Designs for an estimate, they can build it for you. Original post as follows:
Happy Halloween! Today I bring you a not-so-spooky coffee table and carpet design based on the ol’ Ouija Board. These are for geeks who enjoy occult-themed fare like Supernatural and Buffy, and can also afford to shop at fancy furniture joints (none of that IKEA stuff).
The wooden coffee table features a glass fixture and wheels, of course. The carpet would ideally be as big as possible to help sell the illusion of an oversize game board. The one thing about the Ouija Board is that it’s a very nice design, and looks at home on the floor. You couldn’t say for that Monopoly or Sorry.
Bullet Bill Earbuds
I was perusing some earbuds recently when I made the observation that the Skull Candy logo seemed reminiscent of the skull seen on the Bullet Bill cannon. And eureka, a geeky design was born. This earbud design features a Bullet Bill character on each earpiece, and a Bullet Bill cannon as a fastener/clip.
I’m 99.99% certain that there are earbuds shaped like Bullet Bill currently on the market; it’s just a matter of adding his face and arms to complete the look.
Updated Vancouver Skytrain Map - Super Mario 3 Style
A high-res poster is available here. Evergreen Line beyond Lougheed station is subject to change*.
Just for fun I thought I’d make a version with some animation. If you need accompanying music look no further.
*Both the Millenium and Evergreen Line could share the line between Lougheed and VCC-Clark, or that section could be exclusive to one of those aforementioned lines. I’m betting that both lines will share the route, with the Evergreen Line only using it during peak times.
