LED T-Shirt Designs
A few years ago I scoffed at the idea of embedding LED lights into a T-shirt. Tacky was the word that came to mind. But then Tony Stark made it look cool, so now you can buy T-Shirts that mimic the appearance of an Arc Reactor beneath the surface of the shirt.
I believe that approach can be applied to a few other designs. Seen above are a few examples:
1. The Incredibles. I thought it would be fun to include the “homing beacon” light seen in the film. Ideally it would only go off once per hour, which would be great for battery life. If it were also feasible I’d have it link up with your phone via Bluetooth, so the light would blink when you got a call or text.
2. Razer Electronics. Okay I’m a bit of a Razer fanboy. I dig their use of ambient LEDs throughout their PC peripherals and laptops. Their logo was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the Arc Reactor t-shirt.
3. The Tardis. The single light on top of the Tardis would make this an ideal candidate for an LED tee. Sound effects are a possibility.
That’s it for pictured designs. A few other designs that could apply (on the basis of using a single LED light): The Autobot Matrix of Leadership, NHL ’94 goal light, R2D2, T-800 (single red eye), and Cyclops from the X-Men. Anything else you’d like to see?
If you like these please check out the full-zip hoodies I designed a while back. I also have a designs available for purchase.
Doctor Who Tardis Blu-Ray Case
This is is an update to one of my popular ideas from a few years ago, the Tardis Blu-Ray Case. This time I did my best to make the Tardis look more like its TV show counterpart. The old design started to bother me a bit, now that I have taken up the show since (which I love).
Still the same basic idea, a Tardis case that would contain a bunch of CD-shaped Blu-Ray cases. It would feature LED lights for the top light and signs. All of the spines of the cases would feature an image of the Tardis interior.
Dr. Who Tardis Blu-Ray Case
Update: Be sure to check out the new and improved design! Original post as follows:
A confession: I’ve never watched Dr. Who. It’s a bit daunting to check out a series that’s been running for several years (the current iteration). Maybe one day I’ll check it out, as I enjoy the Torchwood spinoff (weird I know).
But I don’t have to be a fan of the show to know that people love the Tardis, the doctor’s time machine. It is disguised to look like a police phone booth. The Wikipedia page on the Tardis is a fascinating read.
I’m a bit surprised BBC hasn’t used this boxy machine for DVD or Blu-Ray release yet, as it would be an ideal design. I’m guessing they were held up by the same issue I was - how to integrate standard-size jewel cases into the frame. Well you can’t, as I have learned. It’s best to use cases that are more CD-shaped, to maximize the volume and storage of the Tardis. Fortunately I made some cases of that nature for my Dark Knight Trilogy design from way back when.
Some LED lights at the top of the case would complete the look. I believe the light on top pulses. That would look awesome in your entertainment center.
If you made the jewel cases very thin, you could store many seasons in this Tardis. It also would be ideal to leave some room for future growth. With that room you could store the top light and pyramid fixture inside when packaging and shipping these cases, as I am a stickler for efficient volume use.
This design reminds of the NBA2K10 special edition design, where they shipped the game in a locker with room to store other games. That always stuck me as a very thoughtful design.
