Geek Bling Part 10: Jabba The Hutt Necklace

Happy May The Fourth!
This is technically a choke chain (oh I slay me) that features a Jabba The Hutt pendant. There are a few Jabba necklaces out there — much to my surprise — but all lacking the dark humor seen in the design above.
Such a necklace is destined to be worn by geeky girls you do not trifle with. Or worn by those who are a slave to fashion (okay okay I’ll stop).

Odds And Ends
I’ll start things off with a bonus design I’ve been sitting on for a while: A Death Star-themed slurpee (slushee?) cup. It just has a single normal green straw that is held in place by the ‘green blast’ (from a fully-operational Death Star). It’s pretty much your normal dome-covered fountain cup. And now for some other news:
- A person who goes by SHIFT brought a design I made for a LEGO spice rack to life. It looks great! You can find full instructions to make one here. Thanks SHIFT!
- ES Robbins made a prototype chair mat for that NHL ’94 design I made a few weeks back. It looks amazing! The post was updated with the picture. Still trying to figure out the logistics of making it available (requires custom art).
- Ubisoft is offering a Sam Fisher digital watch (as a Collector’s Edition bonus item for Splinter Cell: Blacklist) which looks similar to one I designed a few years back. Very cool. European customers only (sadly).
- 80’s Tees is now offering T-Shirts based on my Direwolves hockey logo design. You can grab one here. Look for more of my T-Shirt designs from them in the near future.
- The Tardis hockey jersey is back this month. Head over to my other blog for details. I’ll also be doing hockey jersey giveaways every so often for my Facebook group, so join up!
And that concludes an interesting few weeks!

R2D2 Wireless Adapter
What I own (left) versus what I want (right).
We switched to wireless internet recently, so I got one of these Wireless Adapters (the D-Link DWA-130, pictured) that came with a USB cradle for my workstation. Its blinking light and leaning stance reminded me of a certain Star Wars character, so of course I thought wouldn’t it be neat…
R2 used this antennae at the beginning of Empire, as he searched for signs of Luke. The antennae continuously spun in the film, but for this gadget it would need to be static (who wants to hear a little motor non-stop?). A USB would plug in the front of the droid. He’d also tilt to help get a better signal.
It would be nice if Belkin and D-Link made some fun accessories like this (also see this wireless router I designed a while back), but for now their lines of vanilla-yet-functional products will suffice, I suppose.

Geek Bling Part 9: Snowspeeder Necklace
A necklace based on the Snowspeeder and its grapple line, pretty straightforward. You could have it loop around your neck a few times! Could also work as a bracelet or bolo tie.

Star Wars Central Fireplace
As part of my quest to turn anything and everything into some sort of geeky design, I present this central fireplace based on Darth Vader’s meditation chamber. Yes, a fireplace, and yes this is a weird blog.
It seems central fireplaces come in many styles, as they are usually the focal point of the room the are stationed. With their chimneys jutting straight into the ceiling, they appeared similar to Vader’s ‘Man Cave‘, and voila, a geeky fireplace design was born.
This fireplace would be able to open and close (be it manually or mechanically), to help adjust the room temperature, or to simply denote there is no fire currently.
Now if you’ll excuse me I have a hankering for some hot cocoa.

Geeky TVs Part 3: Star Wars
In my first Geeky TV post I more or less stated all TVs look the same. Well that’s not necessarily true - I am partial to those with an outer glass frame. And that unique design element is something I incorporated into this Star Wars themed TV.
The internal LED glass frame (similar to this) is skewered to look like a projection from the ever-popular R2D2. The LCD frame is given a light blue color to help blend in. The stand is black to make it look the “projection” is floating in space (very effective in a dark room).
A power indicator light would also be on R2. A few sounds for power up and off would be neat as well - much like the recent Star Wars Xbox 360 console. I would be sure to include an option that turned off the LED lighting to save power and to be less distracting if need be.
Two knocks would be the wider stand and heavier weight due to the glass. Also this would be a premium-priced TV due to the license and inclusion of a small R2D2 figure. Still, this has a shut up and take my money vibe, in this blogger’s humble opinion.

Door Peephole Mask Idea
Are you an extroverted geek who is looking for a way to announce to your apartment neighbors CAUTION a GEEK lives here! Well look no further than this DIY idea, where you dress-up the peephole on your front door with a robot. You are essentially turning the peephole into an eye for the robot.
As you can see it works pretty well with R2-D2 here. You could also enlist WALL-E, the NES ROB, an Xbox 360 Kinect, a Portal Turret, Johnny-5, and on and on. Ideally a robot, but you could enlist a monocled human or something of that nature - whatever allows for the peephole to blend in to the image.
