Ghostbusters Sign Blu-Ray Case

Ghostbusters Sign Blu-Ray Case

Sony released a 30th Anniversary Blu-Ray Edition for Ghostbusters last week, and it features a statue of Slimer and the Ghostbusters logo. I can’t tell if that Slimer statue is dirty, or if I have a dirty mind. Anyways, I would’ve just made a snap case from the Ghostbusters sign:

Ghostbusters Sign Blu-Ray Case

At almost 1.5″ thick, there is plenty of room in this case for additional discs, booklets, and even batteries and LED lights for a light-up feature. I’d also include mounts on the spine so you can hang it on the wall like a clock, allowing this case to function like the actual Ghostbusters sign.

This is the second Blu-Ray case design I’ve made for Ghostbusters, here is the first.

Adventure Time Syrup, Independent Thought Alarm Button

A few weeks ago Adventure Time featured some “Canadian Maple Syrup” guards (they hail from the Breakfast Kingdom), and as a Canadian I thought they were hilarious. I mean, they were standing on guard fer crêpes sake.

Anyways I think it would be awesome if a maple syrup company produced a collectors bottle to look like this character. Granted, the dude is a throwaway gag, but I still want one.

I was in my neighborhood Staples recently (What? Even us lowly bloggers need practical office solutions), when I saw their famous Easy Button gag gift, which is a button that serves no function. So I thought if I wanted a geeky non-functioning button on my desk, it would be the Independent Thought Alarm from The Simpsons.

Sure it could be wired up to something or make a buzz sound when pressed, but I’d be happy with a plain trinket that I’d park on my desk. I feel it would be a hit with teachers and other people in positions of authority (bosses or supervisors).

RCKY T-Shirt Solicitation

RCKY T-Shirt

UPDATE: My first foray into crowdfunding has ended, and the Teespring campaign to offer these t-shirts did not reach its goal. I’m bummed because people tell me all the time to Kickstart this or Indiegogo that! Oh well, them’s the brakes. Obviously I won’t be attempting to crowdfund apparel items again, mostly because there’s so many outlets for that kind of merch online.

Recently I did the art for this Dinobots tee for 80’s Tees (the hilarious idea was theirs), so do check that out.

Super Metroid Monitor Mount

Super Metroid Monitor Station

Wouldn’t it be cool to recreate the title screen from Super Metroid with your computer monitors? Your workstation would turn into a science lab, complete with a captive Metroid as an eye-catching centerpiece.

This mount would feature LED lights, allowing it to double as a lamp. It could feature additional functions like a USB hub or device dock too. Actually you could skip the mount function and just make this a standalone lamp/USB hub as well, allowing you to place it anywhere. Audio sounds from the game would be great too; an animatronic Metroid (that squashes like the title screen) would be too tough to execute methinks. Read the rest of this entry

Use Batman And Robin To Conceal Loose TV Wires

Batclimb Batman 60's

UPDATE: My bad, there are already products on the market like this! They’re from NECA, and you can buy one now. Original post as follows:

When you go the extra mile to conceal the wires stemming from a wall-mounted TV, it looks great. Sometimes concealing wires is not an option, so here’s an idea: have Batman and Robin scale the wires like they are climbing up a building (a “Batclimb“, as it was known in the 60’s series).

I used over-sized Lego Minifigures here to demonstrate the idea, but you’ll probably be better-served by something like these.

Batman and Robin work great here because there are usually two cables hanging from the TV (the power cord and HDMI cable), so they’d cling to one cable each. If additional cables are present you could use Batgirl and Nightwing too.

There are other approaches too (such as Luke Skywalker heading up to an AT-AT), however the dynamic duo look at home climbing up the wall.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Cassette Player Papercraft

Guardians Of The Galaxy Cassette Papercraft

Here is fun and simple papercraft project for GOTG fans: the cassette player from the film. This isn’t the walkman Peter Quill carries, rather the deck that is embedded into the wall of his ship, and is featured as the soundtrack cover.

I designed this to be life-size and to hang anywhere like a clock. Here it is by my desk:

Initially this was more ambitious — the player had extruded buttons and a more detailed cassette, but I decided to keep it simple so kids can take a crack at this (you just need scissors and tape). It does feature a removable cassette if that’s any consolation.

After the jump you’ll find the templates and directions. Read the rest of this entry

Breaking Bad Money Bed Sheets

Breaking Bad Money Bed Sheets

Here is a design for your bed sheets that will make them look like stacks of money, specifically the large pile of cash that Huell and Kuby famously laid on top of in Breaking Bad.

There are a million places where you can get custom-printed bedding. Unfortunately a lot of the places I found online look sketchy, or they have production limitations (more on that in a second), or they don’t reply to my email inquiries. I was hoping to make this design a reality, but so far no dice.

The main limitation is that most places will project a single image onto the top of a bed sheet. I want to go a step further and project images onto all sides of the sheet, so you can see the sides of the money wrapped around the sides of the mattress.

If you know of a reputable custom bedding place that can do a “wrapped graphics” approach like this, please let me know in the comments. My goal is to make one for myself and share the art (in several bed sizes) with everyone.

Notes: above is a queen-sized bed, with life-size bills. If I was able to get this made I would include Breaking Bad characters on the bill faces too.
