Meridian Trench
My latest art print is a 27″ x 40″ one-sheet of a famous scene. It’s not available to buy just yet, I’m gauging interest first. So if you like what you see, please like, tweet, or comment. I’ll update this post should it go on sale.
If there is zero interest then that’s cool too. It’s a portfolio piece/separate project I am working on.
If you like Star Wars I have a few more posts here.
Super Mario Furniture
Here is another design from the cutting room floor, a couch and chair based on the first level from Super Mario 3. I put this together a few years ago, but it struck me as Pee-Wee’s Playhouse-ish in appearance so I shelved it.
When I came across it again during my recent cleanup*, it struck me as something fun to look at, so why not share it? Not shown: the walls would be painted sky blue and adorned with shrubs and clouds and other Mario scenery.
*And my cleanup is done! I migrated hundreds of images and edited as many posts. I also remade art and wrote new write-ups for dozens of posts, so it feels like I’ve been blogging like a madman for the past few months! It feels good to get that out of the way, I can now move on to more new stuff.
Autobot Blaster Attempt Derailed
You might recall that a few years ago I posted a mockup of a stereo that looked like Blaster, the popular cassette-playing Autobot (or Audiobot as I like to call him). It’s something that I always kind of wanted in real life, so I’ve kept an eye out for existing stereos that I could enlist for such a project.
Then a few months back I found an RCA stereo that could do the job. It had a midsection that extruded out just like Blaster’s yellow tape deck. The speakers were also ideal too (I’d flip them upside down if needed). So I placed an order for the stereo, and even ordered some Autobot stickers from Reprolabels. The plan was to meticulously disassemble and paint the stereo.
Alas my order was pushed back to June (even if I choose express shipping!), and all other reputable stores don’t have this in stock. I’ve decided to throw in the towel and cancel my order, clearly this 5 year old stereo model is no longer being made (attempts to contact RCA fell short too).
I thought it would be a fun surprise for the blog, instead I will just share the mockup and my aborted plans. I will continue to keep an eye out for a stereo system that will fit the bill, and I will also attempt to do more IRL projects going forward.
UPDATE: A couple of helpful folks on Twitter pointed me to a reputable retailer and I ordered one, will get it in a week…so things are a go now! (Here is the link - Canadian customers only)
UPDATE 2: Derailed again. The product is out of stock.
Pixar Collection Blu-Ray Case
Sorry for the lack of activity lately! I have been editing hundreds of posts these past few months as part of my cleanup effort. While I was sorting through all my art I stumbled on something I made a few years back, but decided not to post: this PIXAR case based on the Pizza Planet truck, which has been seen in every PIXAR film. Toy Firetruck USB Hub
My desk is often covered with cables (especially when I am recharging my portable devices), so I thought it would be fun to help conceal the mess by using a USB Hub that looks like a toy firetruck. See, all the wires/cables would look like hoses when plugged into the side of the firetruck.
For increased functionality I would also include a headphone jack, card readers, and an LED lamp built into the extendable ladder. Lights and sounds would also be a fun touch.
Idea For The Astrodome: Convert It Into Deep Space Nine
Right now the folks in Houston are trying to figure out what to do with the Astrodome, which has been sitting vacant for several years. Many plans for the dome have fallen by the wayside, including this multi-use approach which I really like. I’m going to throw my esteemed hat into the ring and declare that the Astrodome be converted into Deep Space Nine. Read the rest of this entry
