Hand Scanner Gadget

Hand Scanner Gadget Door Lock 2012 Dave Delisle

I always thought it would be cool to have a fake hand scanner hanging on the wall by a door. It would give your place a real Bond villain vibe.

Comic Book Mirrors

Comic Book Mirror Decals

The idea of using a magazine cover as a mirror is an old one. Why not a comic book-themed mirror for us geeks?

I am proposing a rectangular mirror that comes with the logo, masthead, and barcode from a comic book cover; essentially turning the mirror into a comic book where you are the hero. OR this could be a set of decals that you can apply to any mirror.

In my opinion this mirror would be a great confidence booster. Think of it: if you are seeing yourself labelled as Superman or Wonder Woman daily, you might subconsciously subscribe to the notion that you are indeed super.

I’m informed that decals used for cars would do the trick, because they are immune to UV light and moisture, making them ideal for the bathroom mirror.

Avengers Collection Blu-Ray Case

Avengers Helicarrier Blu-Ray Case by Dave's Geeky Ideas

It’s been a looong time since I posted a Blu-Ray case design (October 12th!), apologies for that. There was once a time this blog was quite popular for those. I chalk it up to not really buying packaged media anymore.

This is a case designed to hold a plethora of Marvel films that constitute The Avengers, both the team and their respective solo outings. It is based on the Helicarrier, which is the Avengers and SHIELD’s flying fortress (I’m sure you knew that). Read the rest of this entry

Thinkgeek Remix Part 4: LED Jellyfish Mood Light

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

This series is meant to be my take on existing Thinkgeek products, but these are turning out to be completely Nintendo inspired. What can I say? Got Nintendo on the brain.

This cool Jellyfish Mood Light from Thinkgeek would serve as the basis for a Metroid container, much like the seen at the beginning of the SNES classic Super Metroid. I would just up the number of Metroids to three from one.

If the Metroids could retain the jelly-like property of the Thinkgeek product, they’d look lifelike. They’d appear to be flying in space, though somewhat drunkenly.

Note: picture not meant to be a size comparison, the Metroid tank would ideally be about the same height as the jellyfish tanks.

Moon And Sun Light Fixture

Sun Moon Light Fixture Dave Delisle 2012

There are plenty of ‘moon lamps‘ available out there. But what I have in mind is a normal light fixture that has a moon image that will glow-in-the-dark. So when the light is on it looks like the sun, and when it’s off it looks like the moon.

This was inspired by those neat Dinosaur coins the Canadian Mint is releasing.

This would be great for a kids room or the grownup stargazers among us. Would compliment a ceiling populated with glow-in-the-dark stars nicely.

I’m not entirely sure if this is possible - would the heat from the bulbs damage the glowing properties of the moon image? Can the moon image be opaque enough for the light to pass through? Maybe someone out there smarter than me (which isn’t saying a lot) can provide insight.

Ren And Stimpy Doorbell

Ren and Stimpy Doorbell

A picture says 1,000 words, so don’t let me keep you. However I am disturbed by the notion that there is a generation of people out there who are not familiar with Ren and Stimpy. Heck, even Invader Zim is losing a foothold in today’s pop culture zeitgeist. Kids these days and their Adventure Time.

Super Mario Curtains

Super Mario 3 Shower Curtain 2012 Dave Delisle davesgeekyideas.com

You could probably accuse me of phoning this idea in, as it is merely a screenshot of curtains imposed onto an actual curtain (there’s an Inception joke in there somewhere). But what I am trying to do here is make this an actual product.

I’ve found a few Etsy people who specialize in sublimated bedding and curtains, and I believe this design would make for a good candidate. As for bedding, I’m hoping for something along the lines of the duvet cover pictured here. With matching cartridge pillow case!

This design is ideal for the shower curtain, especially if you have black and white checkered tiling present. It could also be employed for windows too.
