Create Your Own Pacific Rim Robot And Poster!
Just want to talk about this neat app that lets you build your own Jaeger that you can feature in a Pacific Rim poster! You can try it here (requires Unity 3D extension). Basically it works like a custom character feature you’d find in a video game: build the robot, edit the colors, name it and add country flag, then pose it in a poster which you can download or share. Very cool!
I’m gushing about this app because I was disappointed a Canadian Jaeger wasn’t introduced when they unveiled a roster of International robots a few months back (Australia, Japan, China, Russia, and the USA were represented). I was really tempted to make my own Canadian robot and poster, but thankfully I no longer have to!
Sadly Canada wasn’t a country option, so I had to Photoshop it in*. Weird because we do border the Pacific Rim. Did we get destroyed because of our evil socialist ways? Hmmm. EDIT: looks like they’ve added a whole bunch of countries since I first posted this, Canada as well.
If you like this please check out the Blu-Ray case design I made for the upcoming film.
*If you have to add your own country, paste in your flag and use ‘Agency FB’ font to type the name of the country. You’ll have to slightly widen the font to match the poster template.
UPDATE: Here is another app, a cool wallpaper generator. It can create Pacific Rim wallpapers for your desktop or your Twitter/Facebook page, to name a few. Worth checking out!
Geek Bling Part 10: Jabba The Hutt Necklace
UPDATE: Etsy’s Rude and Reckless made one, please check it out here. Original post as follows:
Happy May The Fourth!
This is technically a choke chain (oh I slay me) that features a Jabba The Hutt pendant. There are a few Jabba necklaces out there — much to my surprise — but all lacking the dark humor seen in the design above.
Such a necklace is destined to be worn by geeky girls you do not trifle with. Or worn by those who are a slave to fashion (okay okay I’ll stop).

Sentinel Robot Public Sculpture/Comic-Con Prop
This is something I that I thought would make for a fun (and geeky) public art sculpture: the severed head of a Sentinel robot from the X-Men comics. It would be neat in a public park, however I feel it would be very much at home on a university or college campus as a nod to the Xavier Institute.
In all honesty I doubt any city or school would permit such a geeky art installation, so I think this would be a neat prop that could be parked at comic conventions. Cosplayers and geeks could get their picture taken with the fallen robot, which would be a pretty cool keepsake.
This art installation/show prop could have lights in the eyes, which adds a bit of flavor. The Sentinel could blink back to life momentarily or stare angrily for prolonged periods of time.
Maybe that fella who built the life-size Skeletor could make this?
If you dig this please check out my take on geeky landmarks.
One last thing: the Sentinels have to be in the new X-Men: Days Of Future Past film, right? That would be awesome.
Danger Zone Sign
My poor neglected Ideas blog! Sorry for the lack of activity lately. It’s not much but I made a fun printable for your work: A ‘Danger Zone’ sign for Archer fans. Danger Zone!
There are two versions because ‘Authorized’ is spelled with an ‘s’ outside of North America. Those wacky Brits and Aussies should conform to what we do in the Americas, tut-tut.
It is sized to fit a standard 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of paper with a bit of breathing room (ignore your printer’s image crop warnings). Apologies if it murders all your ink.
Other printables:
- Geeky Lunch Bags (just added Krusty Burger a few days ago)
- X-Men Xavier Institute Diploma
- Rabbit Season/Duck Season posters
Geeky Flash Drives Part 4: TRON Data Disc
Here are two thumb drive designs based on the data disc from Tron Legacy. Now you can transport your files in style just like Flynn. They illuminate when plugged into a port. If thrown hard enough they could be used as a weapon too, I suppose.
Doctor Who Tardis Blu-Ray Case
This is is an update to one of my popular ideas from a few years ago, the Tardis Blu-Ray Case. This time I did my best to make the Tardis look more like its TV show counterpart. The old design started to bother me a bit, now that I have taken up the show since (which I love).
Still the same basic idea, a Tardis case that would contain a bunch of CD-shaped Blu-Ray cases. It would feature LED lights for the top light and signs. All of the spines of the cases would feature an image of the Tardis interior.
Shark Laser Pointer
This is another instance of when I was shopping for a particular item only to discover it did not exist. Much to my surprise shark-themed laser pointers aren’t available. Now I only have one simple request; and that is to have laser pointers that look like sharks with frickin’ laser beams attached to their heads!
To be clear this would be for a small handheld laser pointer used for highlighting stuff on the chalkboard or terrorizing your pet cat (and NOT for pointing at flying aircraft). This gadget would fit onto your keychain, and would be operated with a push button. To make it friendly for placing in your pocket I’d make all the fins (or the whole body) out of a flexible rubber.
Another way to go is to have a normal laser pointer that can attach to a plastic toy shark. It would be a decorative item for the desk.
Relevant scene for the youngsters who might not get the joke. Can you believe the film is 16 years old??
